Living nativity in San Damiano d’Asti

In the evocative historic cellars of the town, between courtyards and cobbled alleys, a procession of wayfarers will play the re-enactment of the nativity with scenes of ancient crafts and traditional characters.
Along the streets you can meet carpenters, blacksmiths, fishermen, laundresses, spinners, shepherds with their flocks, bakers, censors, centurions and priests, crossing about thirty different settings, including inns and places of refreshment.
According to tradition, the coin of the living nativity scene of San Damiano will be forged, thanks to the skilled hands of the coiner and a custom parchment will be made at the censor in memory of the census of Caesar Augustus.
To make everything even more suggestive, always in the historic centre, a small Christmas market will also be held on the same dates.
A special free shuttle service will be active connecting Asti and San Damiano on 3, 8 and 10 December.
