Visit to the Castle of Govone
The Royal Castle of Govone has a millenial history. It was a medieval fortress, and it belonged to Savoia’s House from 1792 to 1870. Nowadays the ancient manor is a castle, it is used as palace of municipality and you can visit it.
The tour includes a visit to the royal apartments that hosted Savoia’s family at the beginning of the 19th century.
The Ponent gallery has the apartment for princesses visiting the landlords ; there are halls decorated with precious chinese papers dated in the XVIII century.
The hall of honour is a Luigi Vacca and Fabrizio Sevesi’s work, it is a fresco work reproducing Niobe’s mythological episode, all done entirely with the tromp-l’œil technique.
King Carlo Felice and his wife Maria Cristina, at the beginning of the 19th century, decide to restored completely the castle and its adjacent park with Italian-style garden, using the mas summer residence.
